ASCLD/LAB-International Forensic Science Calibration Program

ASCLD/LAB accredits Forensic Science Calibration Laboratories in the discipline of Toxicology and the categories of Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments and Breath Alcohol Reference Materials. Accreditation provides external, independent review of technical aspects and the organizational management system. Accreditation increases the level of confidence for customers and all interested parties in the work and work product of the forensic service provider. The ASCLD/LAB-International accreditation programs are based on recognized International Standards and the comprehensive policies and supplemental requirements of ASCLD/LAB.

Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments Category

This category of accreditation applies to forensic service providers performing calibration of breath alcohol measuring instruments for customers conducting evidential, quantitative breath alcohol testing for criminal justice purposes where a sanction or penalty is involved. To assist in determining if activities being performed are eligible for application to this accreditation program, please refer to the ASCLD/LAB-International Guidance for Calibration – Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments document which provides definitions and examples relevant to breath alcohol calibration activities.

NEW FOR 2016!  As noted above, the ASCLD/LAB-International supplemental requirements for the category of Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments have been revised. The transition period will be from March 1, 2016 – September 30, 2016. For Breath Alcohol Calibration service providers applying for accreditation on or after October 1, 2016, the 2016 version will be mandatory.

Breath Alcohol Reference Materials Category

This category of accreditation applies to forensic service providers certifying the content of reference materials to be used in the calibration or calibration verification of breath alcohol measuring instruments. To assist in determining if activities being performed are eligible for application to this accreditation program, please refer to the ASCLD/LAB-International Guidance for Calibration – Breath Alcohol Reference Material  document which provides definitions and examples relevant to breath alcohol reference material production.

** The 2007 ASCLD/LAB-International Supplemental Requirements for the Accreditation of Breath Alcohol Calibration Laboratories document contains information related to both the Breath Alcohol Reference Materials and the Breath Alcohol Measuring Instruments categories of accreditation.
